New Year's, Happy, etc.

New Year's Eve, as a holiday, is overrated. Yes, I've had fun ones (many, many, and probably more than I should have) but there is such pressure. Pressure to have fun. Isn't that wrong? Isn't that exactly the definition of what is not fun? Trying too hard is the root of many problems in this world.
All of that said, I do wish anyone who may be reading this a joyous, safe, peaceful, and happy New Year.

We will be on the North Shore...one of the most peaceful places on earth. 2007, here we come.

Good little elf

She loves Christmas trees...I mean, it's a serious devotion on her part. Here she helps decorate Heidi's lovely tree.

SNOW!

Finally! Flakes as big as your head at one point...made a snow man after work. It was great. Frosty is not faring so well now, but there's hope...happy solstice, welcome to winter.

My little rock star

They (ah, the ubiquitous "they") say that parents try to live out their thwarted aspirations through their children. Well, Molly's got this one down for me...her rock star photo shoot. This is at the Current's Rock the Cradle event, which is basically a baby party. (The kid disco is right next door...oh yes.) It was a blast. For this photo we tried to give Molly marachas, but instead she strode purposefully over to the guitar and put on her toughest rock star look. That's my girl!

Happy Woolseymas!

Woolseymas is observed annually on December 6, commemorating the 1933 decision by US District Court Judge John M Woolsey in the case United States v. One Book Called Ulysses that the James Joyce novel Ulysses was not pornographic and therefore could not be obscene. The United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit agreed and called Ulysses "a sincere portrayal" and "executed with real art." Ulysses was safe to sell in the United States.
A worthy cause for celebration, indeed. Thanks for the heads up on the new (to me) holiday, Patrick.

Two!

Our beautiful daughter is two today. Here she is, reading Kon-tiki.
It's a wild ride I would not miss for anything. Happy Birthday, my little girl.

Catch up

Clearly, it's been awhile since I've posted, and I am just broken up about that. Very busy, lately. Short highlights will take the place of actually postings, to get my bad self caught up. To whit:
1. A nice visit to Georgia occurred, complete with my driving a pickup down multiple dirt roads to buy beer. It was an experience, to say the least.
2. Got my two latest displays installed (aided and abetted by others, namely the Saintpaulite), one on Minnesota ephemera and the other on Minnesota baseball as a tie in to the new major exhibit at the Society, Baseball As America.
3. After an extremely pleasant family Thanksgiving dinner in Iowa, we spent the night at the Budget Host. This was not the highlight of my life...I spent a lot of time thinking about Memento and the feeling of unspecified angst in the air. Lucky, nothing I feared came to pass...although we woke up feeling like we'd smoked a pack each (David's observation) without any of the fun bits.
4. We've now got a Christmas tree and snowflakes in the windows and an almost two-year-old daughter. Hopefully we will soon have actual snow.
