More than white noise

We went to the Hold Steady show Wednesday night. There are so many things to love about it...the crowd, the vibe (yes, really, I said it), the drinks, but most of all - above, beyond, and through it all - the music. It is about my home, and the sound grips my heart, and seeing it live just adds another dimension of joy. It feels like a revival...one I understand. And I want to be cool, everyone in the audience is cool, but in the end, we all raise our hands.
(Special thanks to my co-concert junkies, Heidi and Alan, and of course David, for taking care of Molly.)

Big night out

Lovely ladies at Walker After Hours. Not a flattering picture of me, perhaps, but this is us looking tough, not unlike Charlie's Angels. Avenging party angels.
It was a fun evening...first, to the Heartland Wine Bar which provided spectacular wine and food as always. Then, onto art! First an opening at the wonderful Groveland Gallery hosted by the ever charming Sally. The shows on now are quite excellent too. After that our movable party migrated to the above mentioned Walker After Hours, and quite a party that was. Lots of people, lots of crazy art (more on this later, perhaps). We rewarded ourselves for our good work partying with a nightcap in the lounge at La Belle Vie. Beautiful, indeed.

A symphony of longing

We saw the premiere of a charming, sweet movie last Thursday, appropriately titled Sweet Land. It will make you miss the prairie...or at least the picturesque parts of it.

Holy sh*t, SNOW!

Yep, snow today. It was wild...the whole office went to stand in the rotunda at one period this afternoon to stare out the enormous windows in amazement. It was white-out conditions...downtown couldn't been seen, and it's not even half a mile away. Shocking, surprising, secretly hilarious, but it left as quickly as it came, replaced by blue sky. A few lonely flakes remained behind on piles of leaves to remind us what is ahead.

Two lovely ladies

And good girls...for the most part.

Can be? Nay, is!

Please be awed by this fabulous gift I just received, from my very dear old (okay, not old, but friend of long standing) friend Beth Martin Gammon. (What taste! What skill to find this book - a surprise for me!) This book is so fun and so sweet I cannot believe what a lucky girl I am to have received it. Thank you, Beth! And thanks to Alex and Theodore too, as I am sure they approved of it being sent. When my mother saw this on the kitchen table she said "Why do you have this old book?" Okay, I confess, I like old books!
