Fall

Yesterday, it was 85 degrees. Today, it is 60. A radical change that I find difficult to adapt to, or to accept. But...utterly powerless we are in the face of weather.
So I went for a walk tonight. Yes, to the liquor store, to buy a bottle of wine. It was a beautiful walk though...cool breeze, fresh air, lots to look at. The walk was good and the wine is good and maybe fall isn't so bad after all.

No, fall is not so bad at all. Here in the Mid-Atlantic I watch for signs beginning in August--the leathering of the sycamore leaves, and then in September, when the sun starts to look like afternoon all day long, and then later, when I can say "This must be what is what it was like in Minnesota three weeks ago..."
There isn't any liquor store to walk to here, but if there is liquor in the house already, the porch is quite nice on a cool, falling evening.
And there's always next summer.
